Can You Have a Concubine? Or Do You Already Have One?

Can You Have a Concubine? Or Do You Already Have One?

Kuttah Spoken Truth dives deep into this controversial topic in his video: Can You Have A Concubine, Do You Have A Concubine?.

There’s a lot of debate around concubines. Some argue it’s wrong, others see nothing wrong with it. Today’s society looks down on concubinage, but scripture presents a different perspective. Many great men of the Bible had concubines—one example being the Levite priest in Judges 19.

So, yes, a man can have a concubine if it’s in order. But the real question every man must ask is: Do you want a wife—or a concubine?

What Is a Concubine?

In biblical times, a concubine was considered a lower-status wife. Men often took concubines when their wife couldn’t bear children, ensuring their legacy continued. In other cases, men took concubines to satisfy their masculine imperative, within order.

In modern terms, a concubine is much like what we call a “side chick.” She stepped in when the wife could not—but with a crucial difference: a concubine was bound to the man alone. If she dealt with another man, it was adultery—often punishable by death.

Feminism and Concubines

Judges 19 highlights how feminism corrupted even concubines. The priest’s concubine abandoned him and went back to her parents’ house—an act that spiraled into her downfall.

This shows the stark difference between a wife and a concubine. A wife submits to masculine leadership and builds with her husband. A concubine, however, often follows her emotions and rebellion, resisting structure and accountability. This is the same feminist spirit driving many women today—seeking freedom without responsibility.

Concubines Are Their Own Problem

Concubines are toxic in nature. They thrive in chaos, never satisfied, always chasing drama. Instead of bringing peace, they bring confusion. And that toxicity can place a man in dangerous—even life-threatening—situations.

This is exactly what happened to the Levite priest. By chasing after his concubine, he walked into life-threatening danger.

Never Chase After a Concubine

When the priest’s concubine left, he should have let her go. Instead, his pursuit placed him in a position where men threatened to rape him (Judges 19).

Here’s the lesson: a wife will not put you in compromising situations—she honors her husband’s leadership. A concubine, on the other hand, is driven by rebellion and poor choices. Many men have lost their resources, their empires, and even their lives because they didn’t recognize the difference.

Let Concubines Meet Their Fate

Concubines might bring excitement for a time, but that’s all they can offer—temporary pleasure. They are “fun girls,” ticking time bombs. If you keep them too close, their chaos will eventually destroy you.

In Judges 19, the concubine’s choices led to her being raped throughout the night and ultimately killed. She could not stay home, she had to be “out in the streets”—and it caught up to her.

Wise men don’t chase concubines. They let them meet their fate.

The Final Warning

The priest in Judges 19 escaped with his life, but many men aren’t so fortunate. Men today lose everything because they mistake concubines for wives—paying with their finances, their families, or even their lives.

Be diligent. Know your woman. Don’t confuse a concubine with a wife.
